When the month of April rolls around, we are in search of the early Spring Chinook that show up in the Puget Sound in limited numbers. April fishing consists of a mix between blackmouth (Winter Chinook salmon) and early Spring Chinook salmon. These two fish congregate in the same areas and their common denominator is their urge to feed and get big and fatten up.

As March rolls around, we get glimpses of spring weather with sunny skies and warming temperatures, which bring spawning herring (bait fish) into the Puget Sound in abundance. Following those herring are hungry king salmon that are eager to fatten up for their summer migration up various rivers for their own spawning season.

During February, we continue chasing Blackmouth (Winter king/chinook salmon) while larger, more mature Chinook salmon begin filtering into the Puget Sound. It may be cold, but if you can tough it out you will be rewarded with some quality fish, both in size and taste.
