Seattle Fishing in October: Coho, Chum, and Crab Await!

As September wraps up and fall takes hold in Seattle, October brings an exciting mix of fishing opportunities in Seattle. The weather shifts to cool, crisp mornings with a blend of sunny fall days — perfect for a day out on the water in Puget Sound.

October Salmon Fishing: Coho (Silver) & Chum Salmon

October is prime time for coho (silver) salmon fishing in Seattle. These late-season coho tend to be larger, and as the month progresses, chum salmon also begin to enter the Puget Sound in stronger numbers. Chum salmon are always hard-fighting fish and fun to reel in!

In recent years, we've seen coho hang around well into early November, so the window is wide open — as long as our boats are operating out of Seattle, your shot at landing one is still on!

Trolling & Mooching: Two Proven Fishing Techniques

Similar to September, we utilize a mixture of trolling and mooching to catch salmon in October. During the early fall as salmon begin shifting patterns, we rotate the techniques even more heavily to make sure we stay on top of the fish.

Whether you're after fast-paced trolling action or the hands-on engagement of mooching, our experienced Seattle fishing guides will walk you through the techniques to maximize your success.

The Start of Winter Crabbing Season in Seattle

Winter crabbing season for Dungeness Crab opened on October 1st! We offer both crabbing-only charters and combo trips that include both salmon fishing and crabbing.

The variety of activities we can offer on the water in October is like going trick-or-treating on Halloween! All kinds of fun to be had with surprises around every corner.

Why Fish in Seattle in October?

Think of October fishing like trick-or-treating on Halloween, except instead of candy, it’s a mixed bag of trolling, mooching, crabbing, and both coho and chum salmon! There’s something for everyone this month, and we provide all the gear (including rain gear upon request) to keep you comfortable no matter the weather.

Don’t let a little Pacific Northwest drizzle keep you off the water. The fish (and crab) don’t mind — and neither do we!

Book Your Fall Fishing Charter in Seattle

There’s still time to join us in Seattle before we move south. Starting November 16th, we transition to Tacoma to target winter king salmon, also known as blackmouth.
