Lingcod Fishing in Seattle
One of the most popular bottom fish species to target in the Puget Sound is lingcod. Contrary to its name, the lingcod is actually not a cod; these eel shaped fish are part of the greenling family of fish species. The meat of a lingcod is white and flaky much like a cod, halibut, or any of your traditional white meat fish seen around the West coast, but lingcod generally proves to be superior table fare with its moist texture. This moist, flaky lingcod meat doesn’t dry out as easily as a halibut or cod meat, which makes it an even more desirable fish. With the table fare of a lingcod being nothing short of delicious, it is no surprise why fellow fishermen look for a chance at reeling in one of these for the dinner table.
Lingcod Fishing Methods
Lingcod are caught with a variety of baits and lures using a controlled drift style of fishing, where you will send your offerings down to the bottom where they live. Lingcod are known for their predatory ambush style of feeding where they hide in the nooks and crannies of rocky structure to ambush their prey floating by in the current. These fish are aggressive fighters that will attack a well-presented bait or lure that comes across their path when they are hungry. Come on out and try your luck at fishing for lingcod in the Puget Sound with us!
